Happy Memorial Day! Many spend this day with family & friends grilling out, at cottages enjoying water toys, or just at home catching up on things while having the day off of work. This holiday, however, is so much more than just those things.
Memorial Day is a day to remember all of the unbelievably brave men and women who have died while protecting our country. These people put their lives at risk for OUR freedom. If you really think about it, that is an immense decision to make.
I have thought many times how thankful I am that other people were, are, and will continue to be brave enough, and strong enough, to make a committment to protect our freedoms…when they do not know what they will be facing in order to do so.
Today I will not think about politics, the leadership in our country, or any drama that surrounds those topics. Today I will remember over 1 MILLION service men and women who died in a war while defending this country…so that I could be sitting here enjoying my Freedom of Speech. Do you know how many American war deaths there have been, per war, since 1775? Check out the answer here.
To those who lost their lives…and to those who continue to serve, THANK YOU for your sacrifice. “My Fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” ~John F. Kennedy
